ATA-Certified English–Chinese Translator | Editor | Subtitler

My name is Claire Liu（劉蘊芳）, owner and founder of TransOrient Translations in northern California. I am a professional English–Chinese translator, editor, and subtitler for over 26 years, and work with a small team of trusted colleagues.

Originally from Taiwan, my native language is Mandarin (Traditional Chinese), and I am proficient in Simplified Chinese as well. I have a M.A. degree in Performance Studies from New York University, and a B.A. degree in English Literature from National Taiwan University.

A good translator should be foremost an excellent writer in their native language. Before becoming a full-time translator, I was a senior staff writer for a bilingual magazine, Sinorama, in Taipei. This experience sharpened my eye for detail and my sensitivity to tone, style, and audience.

I received ATA certification from English to Chinese at the onset of my translation career. Over the years, clients have trusted me to deliver high-quality translation, on time, every time, whether in translation, editing, proofreading, or subtitling.
